certain parts of maeworl.xyz take advantage of client-side scripting in the form of JavaScript for enhanced functionality. this may be in the form of inline code on pages, or from separate .js files (located internally or externally). it is not necessary to enable JavaScript to browse the site.

scripts solely created by the site owner (me!!) are released into the public domain under CC0 1.0 Universal unless otherwise stated. these scripts are subsequently free and open source, and can be freely accessed by navigating to a script in question. scripts native to maeworl.xyz are not minified or obfuscated. maeworl.xyz does not use any externally located scripts.

scripts released under CC0 have comments which allow for free licenses detection to work for extensions such as LibreJS, which permit only freely released JS to run.

the scripts

maeworl.xyz uses several scripts to enhance functionality of different parts of the website for users.

this script presents an interstitial to external site visitors, advising them of the website's content before browsing. it makes efforts to assure a visitor's age before they continue browsing the website. a user must agree and assure their age to continue browsing the site. this script is called on every page. blocking the script from loading will entirely disable the interstitial.

the interstitial features a comical heading that rotates on each script call. the advisory itself indicates the content of maeworl.xyz, and requires a visitor's agreement that they are legally able to access such content to continue browsing.

age assurance is achieved by asking for a visitor's date of birth. this date of birth is checked client-side as to whether or not the person is at least 18 years of age on the day of access, based on the local time and date on their device. this information is not transmitted, and is not stored in any manner. cookie data related to the "remember me" option instead stores the fact that the interstitial has been successfully acknowledged, rather than containing a supplied date of birth. please refer to the source for more information.

when the agreement is declined, a visitor's window is located to somewhere else, not maintaining the website in browser's back/forward history.

this script allows for rotating banner functionality when necessary. this allows banner images to be displayed on certain pages which encourage users to consider donating, or access resources (e.g. Itch.io for project files). this script is called on certain pages where such banners are to be displayed. blocking the script from loading will leave behind default banners that do not rotate on page navigation. these banners will be located in the same div element, and can be blocked by filtering extensions if desired.

this script is used on the archive page only. this script allows for dynamic presentation of posts in the archive view. with this script, a user can filter the post listing by character and tags. a user can sort listings by newest or oldest.

disabling this script will remove tagging, filtering, and sorting functionality from the archive view, and all posts will be shown newest to oldest.

this script is used on post pages. it allows for an enhanced experience when viewing works, including full window kinetic zooming and dragging, easy sharing and downloading of images. it is initialised on page load, with a user-triggered function that displays it.

if this script is disabled, there is reduced functionality when viewing works. clicking on the works instead directly navigates to the image.
